Ocean Advisor uses a proprietary, science-backed AI prediction approach to generate daily probability maps that indicate where fish are most likely to be found under current conditions. This system is designed to support captains and fleets in making more informed decisions before and during voyages, enabling more efficient routing, fewer exploratory tows, and more targeted fishing activity.

Following a successful exhibition at the Seafood Expo North America in Boston, Ocean Advisor is heading to Spain for Seafood Processing Global (SPG) in Barcelona, held from 21–23 April 2026. The California-based tech firm will demonstrate how its proprietary AI platform is addressing the primary bottleneck in the maritime value chain: the costly, carbon-intensive process of searching for fish.

Led by CEO and geophysical industry veteran Richard Wright, PhD, Ocean Advisor is bridging the gap between high-level earth science and commercial fishing.  By innovating and applying the rigorous scientific principles of quantitative seismology and probability—technologies perfected in the oil and gas industry—the company is providing the global fishing fleet with a proprietary data-driven "edge" in an environment full of natural noise and uncertainty.

Solving the "Search" Problem

In a recent interview with SeafoodSource, Wright noted that while humanity may only understand 10% of what happens in the deep sea, moving that needle by even 2% or 3% creates a massive economic and environmental advantage.

Ocean Advisor’s platform generates proprietary Daily Species Probability Maps. These color-coded tools allow captains to "affirm" their targeting, moving away from guesswork and toward precision. By identifying high-probability fishing zones,  vessels can navigate directly to productive waters, materially reducing the costly search process that has historically plagued the industry.

Economics and Sustainability Through Efficiency

The move to Barcelona comes as the industry faces increasing pressure to reduce fuel costs and address its environmental footprint. Ocean Advisor’s technology is proving that profitability and sustainability are not mutually exclusive. Key impacts highlighted by Wright include:

- Over 30% Reduction in Vessel Fuel Consumption: Clients have reported reducing vessel fuel consumption per kilogram of catch by over 30% due to optimized vessel timing and reduced fuel burn, which reduces carbon emissions.

- Reduced Tow Time: Precision targeting means less time with gear in the water, protecting the benthic environment.

- Effort Dispersion: Instead of fleets concentrating in a single "hotspot," predictive maps allow vessels to spread their effort across wider grounds, preventing localized overfishing.

Through our rigorous scientific approach, our team delivers fishing probabilities built specifically for the highly dynamic ocean environment fishing fleets face," said Richard Wright, CEO of Ocean Advisor. "Every day we are helping our global clients deliver seafood to the market with less cost, less tow time, and a significantly lower carbon footprint."
